An Afterthought Waiting to Happen

New companies tend to be started by product people (“I have a better idea”) or marketing people (“I can access the market better”). As they build out their management team they add a senior developer, a sales manager, and administrative experience, usually including a bookkeeper or an accountant. As the company grows, the leadership team grows, often in every area but finance. Why is it that the staff accountant or controller is still doing the same old thing? Where’s the leadership in the financial area? For the small business owner, it may be an afterthought waiting to happen.
